St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology (STC), Chengannur started during the academic year 2010-2011 and is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)-New Delhi, Government of Kerala and affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. The college acquired ISO certification (ISO 9001:2008) in the year 2011. The institution is established by St. Thomas Educational Society-Adoor. The governing body of the society comprises of Mrs. Gracy Babu, President (W/o Late Er. Palazhi Babu Thomas & Former Chairperson of Caarmel Engineering College, Perunad, Ranni), Mr. Jose Thomas- Secretary (Founder Treasurer of Caarmel Engineering College, Perunad, Ranni & Chairman of Travancore International School, Adoor) and Mr. Jacob Thomas-Treasurer (Former Accounts Manager of Kwality Icecream, UAE). STC is a leading engineering institute, attracting outstanding academics and featuring world class research facilities. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) is an initiative of Kerala Start-up Mission of District industries centre under Start-up Boot camp Scheme - Government of Kerala. Under this scheme financial assistance is given to selected colleges for supporting innovative products and thereby builds an entrepreneurial eco-system inside the campus. STC has well established IEDC.


Computer Society of India (CSI) is the first and largest body of computer professionals in India. It was started on 6 March 1965 by a few computer professionals and has now grown to be the national body representing computer professionals. Through the initiatives of Professor Rangaswamy Narasimhan, the first President, CSI has been in close liaison with International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) its inception in 1965, when observers from India attended the IFIP Council meeting. The STC CSI Student Branch Chapter is well functioning in the college.



The Planning Commission sanctioned an outlay of 5 crores for National Service Scheme (NSS) during the Fourth Five Year Plan. It was stipulated that the NSS programme should be started as a pilot project in selected institutions and Universities. On September 24, 1969, the then Union Education Minister Dr.V.K.R.V.Raio, launched the NSS programme in 37 Universities covering all States and simultaneously requested the Chief Ministers of States for their cooperation and held. It was appropriate that the programme was started during the Gandhi Centenary Year as it was Gandhi ji who inspired the Indian youth to participate in the movement for Indian independence and the social uplift of the downtrodden masses of our nation. St. Thomas College of Engineering & Technology has one unit of NSS (Unit no-553) under the technical cell with strength of 100 volunteers. The NSS unit of the college places an active role in shaping our students humane and responsible citizens. The overall aim of NSS is the Personality Development of students through community service. The NSS conducting special camping programme of seven days duration in adopted places and it provides unique opportunities to the students for group living, collective experience sharing, sharing responsibilities, addressing various developmental issues of regional and national importance and constant interaction with the community.


Physical Education has the opportunity to inculcate ethical values and influence moral behaviour of students through Sports and Games. The college provides excellent facilities for sports and games. A wide range of opportunities for outdoor games and indoor games are available in the campus. The college has facilities for popular games such as Tennis, Badminton, Cricket, Basket ball, Volley Ball and Foot ball. The college regularly competes in inter college tournaments.


Rapido is a college level track and field event (sports) usually conducted during February/March of every year at College ground/Municipal stadium. Track and field event is one of the vivacious programme of the college where students actively participate to showcase their physical talent. Along with winning, true sportsmanship is encouraged. The track and field events are coordinated by the sports committee members headed by Sports Club Secretary. Staff members of the college also coordinate each event of rapido.


Spike is an intercollege games competition normally held during February/March of every year as a promo event of Yvidh (Techno cultural fest) at college. Basketball, Volley ball, Badminton are the games included in the competition. The winners will be awarded with an ever rolling trophy in the name of Late Er. Palazhi Babu (Founder Chairman, Caarmel Engineering College, Perinad) and cash award.


YVIDH is an Annual Intercollege Techno-Cultural programme of the college conducted normally on February/March of the year. This programme initially started during the year 2015 and then onwards it’s been the college’s pride event. The smooth functioning of the event is facilitated by the various committees and its members (Staff members and Student members) that are formulated normally two months before the programme. The programmes normally extend for two days and a healthy number of participants visits and take part in various events. Events are normally classified into technical, cultural and extracurricular programmes. Each department of the college holds the responsibility of their own technical activities while cultural/extracurricular events are coordinated by central team that contains members from every department.


APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (initially Kerala Technological University),a State Government University has come into existence on May 21, 2014 with an aim to give leadership to the technology related policy formulation and Engineering Planning for the State. It also emphaziess to improve the academic standards of the Graduate, Post Graduate and Research Programmes in Engineering Science, Technology and Management and regulate the academic standards of all colleges affiliated to the University. The main thrust areas of the University are Research, Development and Innovation.
